The Persian New Year marks the arrival of spring and with it comes a sense of new beginnings.

. Celebrated at the exact moment of the spring equinox this is a secular festival with roots that go. Nowruz is a celebration of nature Deravian says. Novruz begins on either 20 March or 21 March on the spring equinox when the days and nights are equal lengths with days then becoming longer.

Novruz is an ancient holiday which can be traced back 5000 years to the Sumerian and the Babylonian civilisations. The painting depicts Haft-sin symbols of Nowruz being related to elements of Fire Earth Air Water and the three life forms of Humans Animals and Plants. Haft هفت is Persian for seven.

Called Nowruz in the Persian language Farsi Navroz in the Ismaili Muslim tradition and Naw-Rúz in the Bahai faith the festival is celebrated at the time of vernal equinox falling on March 20 or 21 when the sun crosses the celestial equator and night and day are equal in. هفتسین is an arrangement of seven symbolic items whose names start with the letter س pronounced as seen the 15th letter in the Persian alphabet. This is one of humanitys oldest holidays and although it may be often called Persian New Year it predates the Persian Empire and can be traced back 5000 years to the Sumerian and the Babylonian civilisations.
